Editor-in-Chief, David R. Lide
Former Director, Standard Reference Data,
National Institute of Standards and Technology, Gaithersburg, Maryland
"CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics... essential
tool in every laboratory...process engineering office."
- Editor, Food Technology, New Zealand
Description
The enormous success of the CRC Handbook of Chemistry and
Physics results from many factors, including the attention, expertise, and commitment to
excellence that Dr. Lide contributes as the Handbook's Editor-in-Chief. When updating and
creating each new edition, Dr. Lide balances new and revised material with the content of
existing tables to ensure that the "Four Cs" are met:
- Comprehensive: The material must cover a broad range
of scientific topics with ample depth.
- Current: The tables are updated frequently, with
particular attention paid to those tables for which the information changes most rapidly.
- Critically Evaluated: All data are taken from
critically evaluated sources.
- Convenient: Related tables in the Handbook follow
the same format and use consistent units. Data are arranged specifically for easy
locating.
The CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics also owes part
of its success to the participation of the individuals who use it. Every year, information
is added, revised, and deleted based on suggestions from readers. If there is a particular
data set you would like to see in the Handbook, let
us know. We consider all comments and suggestions! We also participate in several
UseNet groups and when possible, will be in touch with you with responses to your
questions, or comments regarding how your ideas may be valuable to the book. We are
developing the Handbook in an interactive manner, both as a print product, and as an
electronic product (coming next year).
